GET 2
ZERO
Tennessee Loveless's Chicago chapter for his portrait series “Drag Landscapes” captures the vibrance and individuality of the city’s drag performers, framing each subject within the neighborhoods and spaces that shape their artistry. In partnership with Center on Halsted, the Midwest's largest LGBTQ+ community center, this work found new life throughout Lakeview East, where the portraits were installed as large-scale banners across the community, and further amplified through a feature in Grab Magazine.
This installation became a visual centerpiece of Center on Halsted's "Get 2 Zero" campaign (#Get2Zero), a community healthcare initiative developed in partnership with the statewide Getting to Zero Illinois (GTZ-IL) framework, coordinated alongside the AIDS Foundation Chicago and local public health departments. By placing the faces of Chicago's drag community at the heart of a public health message, the campaign roots its two central goals in the people it serves:
• Zero new HIV transmissions — through expanded access to PrEP and routine rapid testing.
• Zero people living with HIV out of care — by connecting individuals to the health services needed to reach viral suppression, reflecting the reality that Undetectable = Untransmittable.
Through ‘Drag Landscapes’, Loveless's work does more than decorate a neighborhood — it turns public space into a site of visibility, care, and community accountability, using portraiture to carry a message of health equity directly into the streets where his subjects live and perform.
